Here we take a closer look at some top travel tips that can help you to get the most out of your camping trips. Such trips should be fun and the following ideas will help with your planning, ensuring that you can have the best possible time.
Most of our tips will be applicable to any trips that you take, so it may be worth printing out a copy of them and keeping it safe. Here are nine top tips:
1. Investigate the campsite before you set off: There’s an enormous amount of information online about sites. Take advantage of this to find out key points before you go. Take a look at the map of the area too to see what’s around the site.
2. Make a list of things to pack: If you leave your packing until the last minute then you’re almost bound to forget something. A far better approach is to make a comprehensive list a day or two before you set off. That way, you can tick things off as you pack them.
3. See if there’s anything you need to buy: Your list should act as a prompt. Is there anything on the list that you need to buy before departing?
4. Put up your tent: This may sound like a strange suggestion, but it’s always worth putting up your tent in the garden before you leave. That way, you can check that you have all of the parts, that you know how to put it up and that it doesn’t let any water in.
5. Think about eating and drinking: Consider what you’ll be eating and where? Do you plan on healthy nutrition? Do you need to pack a camping stove? How about pots and pans? Do you need to visit the supermarket?
6. Don’t forget toilet rolls: A real basic but something that many people forget to pack - don’t make the same mistake.
7. Take your own toilet: This is particularly important if you’re visiting a campsite for the first time and don’t know what the facilities are like. By packing your own portable toilet you can ensure a much more pleasant trip.
8. Look up directions and print them off: There’s nothing worse than getting lost on your way to a site! Don’t forget to print off some good directions so that this can be avoided.
9. If you need eletricity, then plan on bringing a small portable generator.
These tips should help you to avoid disasters, meaning that you can fully enjoy your camping trip. Feel free to refer back to this list when ever you need to.

Street markets are great places to shop, watch the locals and while away a few hours in busy pavement cafe. But especially if you’re new to the Spanish Costa Blanca, knowing where to find them can be a bit of a minefield. Listings are usually given in the local free papers, but you have to be able to find copies in the first place and they tend to be snapped up by ex-pats fairly quickly!
Most street markets take place in the morning, starting around 10am and finishing around 2pm. Those annotated “pm” are afternoon markets usually starting around 5pm. The Spanish concept of the afternoon is a little different from ours and it extends into what we’d call the evening.
There are markets, craft fairs and the like at other locations too, such as Castillo Conesa San Miguel
On Mondays there are street markets in:
Santa Pola, San Pedro del Pinatar
Tuesdays in:
Orihuela, Benijofar, San Fulgencio, Mil Palmeras (pm), Benidorm
Wednesdays in:
Algorfa, Guardamar, La Mata, San Miguel de Salinas - you can find listings of street markets and other local information on property websites like the one at premiercostablancarentals.com
Thursdays in:
Rojales, San Javier, Bigastro, Urb La Marina, Alicante
Fridays in:
Dolores, Torrevieja, Daya Vieja, Los Montesinos (pm), Pilar de la Horadada (pm)
Saturdays in:
Urb Playa Flamenca, Almoradi
And finally Sundays in:
Urb La Marina, Zoco (Quesada), Benidorm
Unusually, there is a ’street’ market that opens all week, Monday to Friday; it’s the British Indoor Market at Formentera which is quite a big affair.
